  • THE CHIMERA OF M.
Entering the already unfamiliar virtual space of a stereoscopic digital animation, viewers find themselves behind the eyes of an unseen and distinctly unreliable protagonist, so evasive that he and his motives can hardly be identified. Arriving by train at a town where he had once lived, he moves through the old haunts seemingly attempting to re-engage with two abandoned relationships, one with a man, one with a woman, yet frequently appearing simply to become more engaged with quotidian objects made hallucinatory by close scrutiny. The very fractured and expressive manifestation of the three-dimensional space in this stereoscopic film, combined with the protagonist’s point of view, puts the viewers inside these contorted relationships. The pounding and intimate interactions of the characters have to be endured, by being pushed through each situation locked into the identity of someone who refuses to participate or maybe even be.

  • THAT WAS YOUR DOG
A stream of animated snapshots reveals the high points of life, a witness commenting on a patchwork of hyper-emblematic, obscured scenes. This protagonist, in intimate conversation with an absent listener, reflects on each image, attempting to reveal its significance. His speech is littered with mannerisms, appropriating impersonal ad-like slogans and third person narration. He is unreliable: each anecdote, visual vignette, sound element, musical refrain and passage of dialogue distorts itself in the random progression of sound over image. A continuation in an ongoing investigation into the syntax and structure of filmic representation and its subversion, the work is a plea for authenticity in a fragmented and ceaselessly restructured context.

  • BLUR BELT
“Blur Belt” is an investigation into structure and syntax of cinematic representation, by stripping scenes off all their global content, order of narration or detail of reality, in order to distill and magnify their emotional ambition. The severe level of abstraction is used to emphasize values such as speed, weight, colour, form and sharpness and further to increase instability in the ambiguous riddle of familiarity and intimacy.

A vivid imagination can be a seductive but debilitating distraction from life. Twisted fantasies, associations and flashbacks offer an enticing escape, and even a mundane room may be made more bearable by mentally morphing space and time. But in this instance the unhindered and infinite virtual flood of imagery and meaning turns into an insensitive, dreary obstruction.

  • PEAK PROJECT
Peak gives a backstage insight into an improbable theatre production. Sets are built, equipment tested and surreal characters rehearse their acts or just kill time. Theatrical visual illusions suggest the possibility of bending time and space, while stage props are alive and form a natural part of the cast. Their arrangements form a collection of allegories in the language of theatrical symbolism; pre-production turns out to be a space where unreal forms can rehearse their future existence.
